Diyana shared with me this interesting video about a woman who appeared on Oprah to talk about her research on baby language. See video below:
Basically, she claims that there are 5 sounds that all babies make.
Neh - Hungry
Owh - Sleepy
Heh - Discomfort
Eaih - Lower gas
Eh - Upper gas (burp)
When I first watched this video, I memorised the sounds and its meaning to the T. Then when Yasmin came along, all I could hear when she cries was 'Uwaaaaaaaaa'. I was ready to blog about how this woman's research does not work on all babies.
But then I began to notice that Yasmin does make different sounds when she wants different things. Slowly I began to differentiate the sounds that she makes and true enough, now I know what she wants by listening to her cries. The one that is a bit difficult for me to differentiate is the 'Neh' sound. Somehow I can't seem to her the 'N' when Yasmin cries for milk. Thankfully I know Yasmin feeds every 3-4 hours so I know when her cries mean she's hungry.
Yasmin is 7 weeks old today. To mark this auspicious day, she did the unthinkable - she napped all by herself without mummy having to hold her in my arms. I was so overwhelmed that I almost cried! To be able to sit down and have my morning coffee in peace is indescribable. She only napped for an hour but that's all I need.
They grow up so fast don't they?
